Indian High Commissioner H.E. Mr. Gopal Bagley pledged to provide the fullest support of the Government of India to uplift the investment and tourism sector in Sri Lanka which has fallen with Covid -19 pandemic during the discussion held with Hon. Minister of Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga on June 2 at the Ministry. He added that financial, technical and other necessary support will be provided in the near future.

The Indian High Commissioner expressed the willingness of Indian Businessmen to invest in Sri Lanka for food security, pharmaceuticals, agricultural products and fuel refining. He also agreed to implement a joint investment program between the two countries after the Covid -19 pandemic. Further, they have exchanged their views on the establishment of a new business center to empower the startups and entrepreneurs in Jaffna with the RS.250 Mn grant of the Indian Government. Hon. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that the work on this project would be completed soon.

The two sides also discussed the development activities of the Palali Airport in Jaffna. The Government of India has provided Rs 300 million for the development of the Palali Airport.

In addition, they have further discussed on the project of building 144 new houses in pilgrims of Madu with the assistance of Rs.300 million provided by the Government of India for the local and foreign tourists. H.E. Bagley also discussed with the Minister on opening of the Katunayake Airport and the arrival of tourists.

Secretary to the Ministry of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion Mr. Mapa Pathirana and Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation Mr. S. Hettiarachchi were also present at the occasion.

Mr. S. Arumainayaham, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, officially assumed duties as the Secretary of the State Ministry of Investment Promotion at the Ministry premises at the World Trade Centre in Colombo on 10.12.2019

MP Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga, appointed as the Hon. Minister of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Civil Aviation assumed his duties at the Ministry of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion premises on 25 th November. Various dignitaries and distinguished guests were among those presented at the occasion.

Hon. State Minister of Investment Promotion Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella assumed duties at the Ministry premises at the World Trade Centre in Colombo on 29 th November. Hon. State Minister of International Cooperation Mr. Susil Prem Jayantha and Secretary to the Ministry Mr. Mapa Pathirana were also presented.

M.P.D.U.K. Mapa Pathirana, a veteran officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who has had an illustrious economic and management career, officially assumed duties as the Secretary of the Industrial Export and Investment Promotion Ministry at the World Trade Centre in Colombo yesterday.

After completing his primary education at Anuradhapura Central College, Pathirana graduated from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In addition, he holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Colombo and another Master’s Degree in Economics and Management from Lincoln University in New Zealand.

He joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1990 and has been a Divisional Secretary in several areas such as Mirigama and Divulapitiya. Pathirana has also served in the Treasury’s Department of External Resources for a period of 20 years.

While serving as the Director General of the General Treasury, Pathirana served as the Ministerial Consultant and Diplomat at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan. He has also served as an Executive Director on the ADB Board of Directors for more than three years in Manila, in the Philippines.

Prior to his appointment, Pathirana served as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli and Environment and subsequently as Secretary of the Ministry of Environment.

Former Ministry Secretary S.T. Kodikara and Additional Secretaries of the Ministry W.A.D.S. Gunasinghe Gamage and A.L.M. Saleem were also present at the occasion.
